Over three decades, Professor Sheffi has founded and co-founded six ventures that pioneered breakthrough solutions across logistics, supply chain management, and optimization. Each company addressed critical industry challenges—from revolutionizing carrier bidding strategies to developing AI-powered freight visibility—and each achieved significant market impact before being acquired by leading industry players. These ventures reflect his ability to identify emerging needs, build innovative teams, and translate research into market-changing solutions. Below is a snapshot of each company.

PTCG

PTCG developed optimization-based decision support systems for the motor carrier industry, creating routing and scheduling software still used by leading trucking companies today. The company expanded into shipper logistics and transportation bidding optimization. In 1993, Yossi acquired the company and brought in Tom Sanderson as President and CEO. PTCG was sold to The Sabre Group in 1996.

LogiCorp

LogiCorp was the first non-asset-based 3PL in the United States, pioneering innovative carrier bidding strategies and integrated bid-award-payment-analysis processes. Founded in 1988 and acquired by Yossi Sheffi and his partners in 1991, the company served leading automotive clients including Mack Trucks, Ford New Holland, and Volvo Trucks. LogiCorp was sold to Ryder Systems in 1994, where Ryder's CEO identified it as the company's most successful acquisition.

Syncra Systems

Syncra Systems developed collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR) solutions to help trading partners collaborate effectively along the supply chain. Co-founded by Yossi Sheffi in late 1997, the company secured $14 million in funding led by Zero Stage Capital in 1999, with Sheffi serving as chairman until 2002. Syncra was acquired by Retek Inc. in 2005, which was subsequently acquired by Oracle Inc. in 2006.

Logistics.com

Logistics.com provided transportation, logistics, and supply chain management optimization software, offering online transportation management systems (TMS), multimodal procurement services, and carrier optimization tools. Founded in January 2000 with $30 million from Internet Capital Group and Sabre Group's logistics assets, the company also acquired QuoteShip.com. Logistics.com was sold to Manhattan Associates Inc. in 2003.

e-Chemicals

e-Chemicals was an online exchange of industrial chemicals, operating with a partner-based business model that included IBM for technology, Yellow Freight for logistics, and SunTrust Bank for financial services. Founded in summer 1998, the company completed a second funding round with Internet Capital Group in April 1999. e-Chemicals was acquired by Aspen Technology, Inc. in December 2000.

FreightVerify

FreightVerify provided AI-based freight visibility and dynamic arrival time estimates for automotive and heavy manufacturers specializing in just-in-time movements. The software ensured accurate control over shipments where late arrivals or content errors could cause production shutdowns. FreightVerify was acquired by Overhaul Inc. in 2025.
